Book Review: 12 Days in Africa by Lisa Sanders

We say all the time we’d like to visit the children we sponsor through Compassion International someday. Right now we sponsor a boy in Uganda, and then of course we sponsor Ayingeneye in Rwanda through this blog.

12 Days in Africa by Lisa Sanders talks about her 12 days spent visiting Uganda through a different child sponsorship program she uses, Hope4Kids.

It was so awesome to read about her trip, and especially since it took place in Uganda! For one thing, it took away some of my fear about the trips. Reading about the structure of the trip was very reassuring.

It was also so moving to read about her experience with the kids and families she encountered, the cultural experiences, and what it was like for her to share this experience with her son.

Lisa’s whole point throughout the book was that God gave her a nurturing, mother’s heart and that she wanted to go on to keep using it for good now that her own children are grown. I really liked that and I imagine myself following a similar path someday.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever wondered what a trip might look like through a sponsorship program like Hope4Kids or Compassion. Be prepared to tear up many times!
