Book Review: Braving It by James Campbell

I was hoping Braving It would give details about cabin-building, Alaskan landscape, and adventure… but without being dry. That’s the sweetspot I personally struggle to find. But. This book did not at all disappoint. I was sucked right in and kept wishing it was on the Kindle instead so I could read it while I put the baby to sleep in the dark.

James Campbell took his 15-year-old daughter, Aidan, to the Alaskan bush to help his trapper-hunter cousin build a new cabin. They went back that winter to help out with and Arctic temperature trap line, then went back again later to backpack and to ride the Hulahula river.

Campbell kept the book fresh and interesting the whole way through with information, description, and emotion. He somehow mixed all the tender sentiments of fatherhood with a wild and exciting tale of adventure and growth.

I very much recommend this one to anyone who is at all interesting in Alaska, homesteading, or hiking/river rafting adventures. I’ve already added his previous book, about that same hunter-trapper cousin, to my list.

*I received this book from Blogging forBooks in exchange for review. Opinions are mine.

Thanks so much for your comments! I always read them, don't always have time to answer quickly. Sorry about that!
