I have found that I am really hard to please in the fiction department these days. Plus I’m in a fiction slump. Nonfiction is easy for me but I feel like I’ve lost my fiction groove. I have basically given up on suspense/thrillers because even though they’re my favorite genre, they’re too disturbing for me anymore. I think I’m just kind of floundering at the moment unsure of exactly what it is that I like to read. I know I love a good story, just don’t know what kind.
When I read the synopsis of Lullaby Road I was certain it was something I would love. It sounded a lot like one of my favorite fiction reads from the past few years and I unfairly went into it expecting to relive that book.
Lullaby Road is of course its own book and it just wasn’t what I was looking for. I haven’t been able to bring myself to finish it (though maybe someday) and I truly do think it’s just me and my weird fiction slump talking here. Although it was a hair gritty and I suspect it was going to get even grittier, I do think the writing was captivating.
I would recommend it to someone who likes a good suspense/thriller and doesn’t mind a little grit.
Have you read this one? What did you think?
