Our favorite Christmas reads of 2017

It’s that time again! I hope we find all kinds of cute new Christmas reads this year. In the meantime, our favorites from last year:

Christmas Cookies: Bite-Size Lessons We’ve borrowed this one from the library three years in a row now. It has a lot of good messages and the illustrations are great so Ryan and I are always happy to oblige when the kids ask us to read this one.

Gingerbread Christmas… a cute take on the Gingerbread Man, which my children already love. I absolutely adore Jan Brett’s illustrations and actually kinda think most of them have a Christmas-y feel to them any ways, but this one is a really clear Christmas favorite.

God Gave us Christmas... we're always and forever Lisa Tawn Bergren fans <3

Homemade Together Christmas… We all adored this sweet family’s homemade Christmas. There is just something so magical about a handmade Christmas! You can read all about my thoughts on that in my Christmas eBook =D

Itsy Bitsy Christmas … I always love Max Lucado’s work and my son does, too. One of his favorite books right now is a Max Lucado book and I am very happy to know he has teen books too, which I really hope my son will get into someday! Plus, I try to read more Jesus-centered Christmas books than secular ones. We do get in on some secular fun but I try really hard to keep the season Christ-centered and this sweet take on the nativity story helps achieve that goal.

Mortimer’s Christmas Manger… another sweet one. Mortimer moves into a family’s manger scene to make himself at home. I love the sweet reverence he shows for Baby Jesus and maybe I was just ultra emotional (I had just had a baby not even a month ago) but it definitely made me tear up a little.

A Night of Great Joy… we had already ready and loved this one… just the simple story of Jesus’ birth, but the illustrations tell it through a Christmas play of the story. My kids adore Mary Engelbreit’s illustrations because of their “red fairy tale book” and it’s honestly really silly I don’t own this one, too. We’ve even borrowed it outside of Christmas on several occasions.

A Pirate’s Twelve Days of Christmas… I actually was really irritated by this one because the 12 days of Christmas just gets soooo old! The kids all loved it though, especially when I put on a good show with my best pirate voice.

Prairie Christmas… this was too wordy for my girls but A adored this book, about a little girl who goes with her midwife mother to a family home on Christmas Eve. She’ll be missing Christmas morning while her mother helps a woman give birth, but it’s told in this beautiful, tender way and it ends with a kind of peace and joy I just loved.

I recently found Jotham’s Journey and Tabitha’s Travels for $.50 each (if I’m remembering right!) and excitedly snagged ‘em. I’m looking forward to reading these on my own this year and figuring out when I think it’ll be a good time to read them to my kids!

Thanks so much for your comments! I always read them, don't always have time to answer quickly. Sorry about that!
