Book review: Love and a Little White Lie

I can't even begin to count the number of times I've said I don't like to read romance stories... But, as seems to happen to me in my reading life, I think I just might be turning a page.

I love deep, rich characters with complicated pasts and flaws they're learning to grow through. I also don't love light-hearted books. I don't like dark/sad books either, but anything too playful or lighthearted is just not my jam.

Love and a Little White Lie* is a contemporary romance that gave me just the kind of rich characters I always love and the exact ending I had dared to hope for. We have guarded characters learning to trust, we have struggling musician, we have uncomfortable family dynamics, and a lack of faith that's growing into something more like faith.

Tammy L Gray is a RITA award winner and when I read in the back of the book that some of her previous works have been redemption stories about healing shame I quickly added them to my TBR.

I felt happy and energized after finishing this book and now I'm much more open to reading other contemporary romances (still not so sure about historical romance) in the future. Also, this is the fourth or fifth Bethany House new release in a row I have loved. They're on fire these days!

*I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House in exchange for an honest review.

Also, because I'm still not reeeeeally coming back online until 10/12, a picture of my cute new puppy 😍 and a link to my new Bookshop.org affiliate shop!

What does this mean? Rather than supporting big book retail giants, using Bookshop.org let's you shop online but still support your favorite independent bookstores. If you go through my shop to make your book purchases, you pay the same amount and they throw me a teensy chunk of their profit as a kind of thank you commission.

Thanks for connecting!

Thanks so much for your comments! I always read them, don't always have time to answer quickly. Sorry about that!
