What matters

Right here, right now. This is what matters.

A hand in mine. A crinkly-eyed smile. Belly laughs. Warm hugs. Eyes meeting across the room, a shared joke or memory coming to mind. Little kisses. Little curls. Tiny fingers and tiny toes. Freckles. Shin bruises from bike pedals because "I can ride a bike with pedals!" Tummy tickles, one more story, dad jokes, board games, I love Mom notes on my nightstand. Three sisters all tangled up together, whispering and giggling long after they were given their goodnight hugs. "Look what I made!" Lisps and mispronounced words. Little voices singing off-key. Cowboy boots with shorts, pretend restaurants, patterned pajamas.

Right here, right now. This is what matters.

Tomorrow will bring whatever it will bring. Yesterday took whatever it took. I cannot change it. I cannot fight it. I cannot undo it. I cannot stop it.

But this? I can savor this.

Right here, right now. This is what matters.

  1. What wonderful moments! Dear Sarah, what a pity I didn't know you before! I would have done a lot in my life differently!

  2. This post reminds me of all that I have to be grateful for right now in this storm. There are far more wonderful things to outweight the rough things that are going on. I will cling to precious things that are all around me, and let the here and now just happen. Thanks for reminding me to see that little things and to savor those things that matter most.

Thanks so much for your comments! I always read them, don't always have time to answer quickly. Sorry about that!
