Our Favorite Nativity Picture Books

The Animals' Christmas Eve... This Little Golden Book is a sweet rhyming book from the animals' perspectives.

Christmas is Here... This is the actual scripture, straight from the King James translation, but the (super sweet) illustrations are of a family attending a Christmas play.

The Christmas Story... This Little Golden Book has the more old-fashioned feel I think many of you are looking for.

The Crippled Lamb... Max Lucado is one of our favorite children's book authors and this book is so special. This one is about a crippled young lamb who doesn't get to journey to the pasture with the others since he's different, but winds up at the birth of Jesus as a result.

Goodnight Manger... This silly rhyming board book is nothing profound but makes my kids giggle and brings playfulness to the manger scene.

Mortimer's Christmas Manger... This little Christmas mouse story is by the team behind the Bear books and is quite fun.

A Night of Great Joy... I love Mary Engelbreit books and this one, like Christmas is Here up above, is the Christmas story but with illustrations of children acting it out in a Christmas pageant.

Room for a Little One ... A very sweet look at the manger scene from the perspective of the animals who were there.

There was no Snow on Christmas Eve... I liked that this one had such a gentle feel to it.

Wombat Divine... This one is all about a nativity play and a little Wombat struggling to find the part he should play. Filled with Australian animals, great fun!

*Nativity set, which we love, is by Melissa and Doug. The stable is thin but has lasted us a few years of little hands and the figurines are thick and sturdy.

Thanks so much for your comments! I always read them, don't always have time to answer quickly. Sorry about that!
