10 First Grader Books We Love

Arthur's Reading Race... My kids have only seen a couple of episodes of Arthur but they love the book and this one in particular.

A Crown for Kate... We all love the message and writing behind this delightful Good and the Beautiful book about a blind girl and her family.

Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood: Friends Help Each Other (and other Daniel Tiger readers)...  I once got five Daniel Tiger readers from the dollar store and they have gotten so much love from all four of my kids. This one has been the specific favorite of my older two girls.

Dash Into Reading, set 2 books... We adore these books. They're sweet stories written perfectly for early readers and the illustrations make us happy.

Dax and the Dunes... There are quite a few level 1 TGTB books I like more than I like this one (though I do like it) but for some reason both of my older two girls loved this one!

Johnny Lion's Book... This is an older book that was just given to us in a stack of old and unwanted books as such delightful serendipity!

Meet Fiona the Hippo... I have a house full of animal lovers who were very happy when I brought this $1 find home from a semi local Christian bookstore. There are picture book and leveled reader Fiona books and my kids like both kinds.

My Second Nature Reader... This is a newer TGTB reader and we love every story! We're big on nature around here.

Pinkalicious: Fairy House... Truthfully, I am neutral about the Pinkalicious books. But, again, my girls love these. Our library has around five of them and they're all fine content-wuse.

That Fat Hat by Joanne Harlan...  As the title implies, this book (about talking cats in dresses) is full of simple words perfect for this reading level. It isn't a profound or enchanting book but it makes my girls smile.

Thanks so much for your comments! I always read them, don't always have time to answer quickly. Sorry about that!
